Gurdon is a small town but with some what a big place to go and see different things and go TO THE LIGHT.. But gurdon is kind of know for THERE AWESOME MARCHING GO DEVIL BAND. The band have been the light of Gurdon for some time now, and when ever theres a football game around, we would like for you to come out and hear the band play some of the wonderful music around, And you will like what you hear. I'm saying this cause i live here all my life and I'm on the drum line in the band[lead snare] and this town need people to support the band like anything else.

GHOST LIGHT STORY!!!!
Todd Jones emailed the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce website and asked about how to go see the Gurdon Light. I sent him some information on it and asked him to tell us his story. Some time passed before I remembered to ask Todd if they saw the light. This is his answer:
The answer to that question would be....i think so! First of all, we had no idea how dark, dark could be : ) To say the least, it was extremely scary to just to get out of the car!! So walking down those tracks was probably the scariest thing i've ever done. My girlfriend could barely walk she was so scared...her legs felt like jelly. I had to pretty much hold her up the whole way. Anyhow, we called my friend back at home on my cell phone to try and set us at ease. Well, we walked for a good hour, saw nothing, and we finally gave up. We took at picture of ourselves and called it a night. Well, as we turned around to start walking back, this is when we saw a light. I started really freaking out because i thought there were other people coming our way...with a flashlight or something. Since the thought of humans coming out of nowhere and Texas Chainsaw Massacre-ing us was my biggest fear, i swore someone was coming to get us. Well it turns out it wasn't a flashlight. Could it have been headlights from the highway? I guess. But i always looked behind me the whole way out there like you said, and never noticed anything. So i'm assuming it was this ghost light. At first it seemed like it was blinking, i can't really explain it. It was an orangish, yellowish light, probably about 30 yards away. We actually started freaking out and started to run so we could get back to the car. Needless to say, even though we ran towards the light, it always stayed the same distance away. Until finally it just disappeared after about two minutes. We were just happy to finally make it back to the car alive : ) I've attached the pics of us when we finally made it back to the car. You'll notice that we were drenched in sweat from having to run and also from the fact that we were scared as hell at what just happened. Though it was the scariest thing i've ever experienced(probably the only time i've actually feared for my life), i'm glad we did it. I would say that i'm 90% sure it was the ghost light. By the way, as we left town, all the sudden we saw a train moving through town. Would this train have been on the same tracks as we were on? Or are there different tracks? That really would have taken the cake if a train came down those tracks at the same time we were on them. Anyways, that's my story. What do you think?

GHOST LIGHT STORY!!!
I took a group of 10 year old girls ( and 2 really big high school football players for protection!) to the Gurdon light a few years ago, WHAT FUN!! We all laughed, some cried with fun filled fear, we walked to almost the interstate before sitting on the trussels and waiting for the light. A few swear they saw something, but we all had a great time. A journey worth the memory!! ps. don't forget to check out the old cemetary when you first go down the tracks to your left, spooky!

I just wanted to let you know how concerned I am with the condition of the old Gurdon High School and the grounds surrounding the campus. I was employed at the school and my husband Randy graduated from Gurdon High School. I know as a Chamber Director it is difficult to encourage growth in a community when you have such a large dilapidated building in the heart of the city.
I would encourage the major and the city council to develop housing or maybe a city park on the property.
